THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HAIR LACES
DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HAIR LACES?
Understanding the different hair lace types would help you make the best judgement in selecting the lace that works best for you.
There are various lace types on the market nowadays and it can get quite confusing for a person that simply wants to buy a wig that fits their skin scalp.
Traditionally, Hair Laces have been differentiated by their colour, these are generally known as French laces and are slightly thick to touch, we have Light Brown, Medium Brown Lace, Dark Brown Lace and colourless which is popularly known as Transparent lace.
As in picture below, you should select the appropriate lace for you based on your skin tone as that would ensure a seamless and perfect finish such that people may not even recognise you are wearing a Wig, however it is quite difficult to find the exact laces for your skin tone, so a lot of women go ahead to apply a lace tint on the laces they buy to achieve a perfect colour that matches their skin tone.
Most often, the cheaper and readily available laces come in very light colours and you would then have to darken it to your own skin tone.
Transparent Laces on the other hand is very thin and breathable and this makes the lace look more difficult to detect, just like your real scalp. The best part is that transparent laces make less obvious knots. It is also worth mentioning that this undetectable lace is excellent for any skin tone. You need not darken your lace to match your scalp but can still do if you prefer.
The pictures below shows examples of transparent laces.
HD LACES
The Hair industry continues to see improvements and very recently, we have seen HD laces come on the market. HD which stands for "high definition".
The HD lace is a royal lace material that used to be called Swiss lace, and is invisible when applied to the scalp. It is also a transparent lace but has the advantage of an HD feel to it. This ensures that the wig-wearer can have an exposed hairline, which looks very natural and renders the lace along the hairline highly undetectable.
Ladies have asked, what is the difference between a normal lace and HD Lace?
To make a wig look as natural as possible is the key aim of the wig wearer, in my opinion, no one want everyone to suspect at first glance that they are wearing a wig. Is this correct?
As we can see in the picture below, the HD lace (Swiss lace) is more see-through than normal lace, which can better melt into the scalp, and make the hairline look more natural and less visible, hence it is highly preferable but also more expensive than the traditional types.
We show pictures of HD laces below and these tend to have very thin laces
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HD LACE AND TRANSPARENT LACE?
As we mentioned above, HD lace is a new name of Swiss lace, a kind of lace that is thinner and more see-through, and transparent lace is the regular lace in transparent colour.
We often recommend the transparent lace to women with light skin tones, but recently we found that the transparent colour lace can melt into any skin tone after we bleach the hair knots and glue down the hairline.
But according to the features of the lace material itself, HD lace (Swiss lace) is still much thinner, more delicate, and transparent than the normal transparent lace and hence more preferable.

Another Lace type we have seen recently are the SILK Base Lace Types
The Silk Base Lace Wigs are the most realistic lace wig caps on the market today. The Silk Base Lace Wig is also known as a Silk Top Wig. They are lace wigs that have their knots hidden by a layer of lace, and silk fabric on the top front of the cap. When the hair is knotted, the knots are below the silk concealed between the layers, the hair is then injected through the silk material making the knots completely invisible, giving the illusion that the hair is actually growing out of your scalp
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SILK BASE WIGS AND REGULAR LACE WIGS?
There is no other ventilation technique that creates a more flawless appearance than hidden knots on a silk top, you don't need to bleach the knots and you don't need to worry about any other techniques to make the knots invisible or less visible like the monofilament normal laces. See picture below
You should also know that the silk material does not cover the entire wig, it generally measures a 4”x4” or a 5”x5”, although you can request a custom full silk lace wig. The silk material begins approximately 1/2 to 1cm from the hairline. (There is 1/2 cm of swiss lace before the silk top begins)
What are Knots? Knots are when strands of hair are tied to the lace base using a knot. Knots are usually dark large and visible giving an unnatural appearance. At Emerald hair, we bleach these knots around the perimeter to make the knots appear smaller, lighter and less visible.
